Transforming healthcare and wellbeing for the growing Illawarra community, the $780 million Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services project delivers a new benchmark for healthcare across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region. Jointly funded by the NSW and Australian governments, the state-of-the-art hospital delivers integrated health and allied services, promoting health and wellbeing through best-practice programs. The campus establishes a connected regional platform that strengthens access, capacity and long-term community outcomes.
The seven-storey hospital consolidates emergency, surgical, medical, mental health, aged care and paediatric services into a fully integrated clinical environment. Developed on a 10.5-hectare greenfield site at Dunmore, the campus relieves pressure on existing regional facilities, including Wollongong Hospital, while extending service reach and capacity. Maytrix delivered a detailed retail strategy and schematic design for multiple retail outlets, resolving public interface zones, site relationships, staging, logistics and operational integration from early design phases.
The expanded campus forms a comprehensive regional health hub. Integrated clinical streams deliver acute, rehabilitation, outpatient, mental health and aged care services. A double-height atrium connects clinical, public and support functions, improving navigation, access and operational flow. Landscaped courtyards, external seating zones and coastal sightlines enhance amenity and provide respite for patients, carers, staff and visitors. Integrated transport, flexible staging and cross-campus links enable long-term service growth and regional delivery.

Retail hubs sit within key public zones, providing food, beverage and convenience services that support amenity, public interface and circulation. Retail planning protects clinical flows, supports tenancy flexibility, and maintains operational resilience through staged construction and campus growth.
Designed to deliver integrated care, health and wellbeing for a growing region, the Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Precinct advances healthcare capacity, service access and patient experience for the Illawarra–Shoalhaven region.Maytrix shaped the campus-wide retail framework, aligning public interface zones with clinical and community care functions. The strategy supports operational sustainability, enhances daily amenity, and strengthens Shellharbour’s role as a regionally significant integrated health campus.
