Positive Solutions
The Dandenong New Art is a transformative cultural initiative and cornerstone of Greater Dandenong’s multicultural arts ecosystem. The comprehensive $12 million redevelopment in the heart of Dandenong provides "an essential pathway to enabling diverse cultures to interact, contribute meaningfully and feel connected to their local community". It builds participation and capacity, fostering creative expression and supporting local and touring artists.
Providing the strategic foundation, Maytrix delivered the robust business and operations plan and governance framework to frame and guide the establishment phase for the gallery, balancing commercial activity and program strategy to ensure sustainable operations.
The $12 million development preserves the historic façade of the 1920s Masonic Hall. Flexible exhibition and program spaces are designed to showcase local artists and host major touring exhibitions. It establishes dynamic spaces to foster emerging artists and cultivate inclusive community partnerships. Creative studios, community, and workshop spaces operate as production and feeder spaces for locally produced, community-based and experimental work, creating pathways for marginalised artists into the professional gallery sector.
DNA represents more than a building project – it embodies Greater Dandenong's commitment to using arts as a vehicle for social cohesion, economic development, and cultural celebration in one of Australia's most diverse communities. DNA contributes to a vibrant cultural precinct that builds participation and establishes Dandenong’s profile as a cultural destination.

The development includes active outdoor spaces for new and engaging public art, and café and retail spaces – for collaboration and connection. Through co-location, DNA contributes to a cultural precinct that engages and connects communities.
DNA’s impact extends beyond its physical footprint. The project addresses the well-established links between creativity, identity, and social connection, providing resources and opportunities for diverse communities to participate in and contribute to cultural life. The strategic framework positions DNA as a catalyst for social cohesion and creative industry growth, supporting local economic development and enhancing Dandenong’s cultural profile.
