One of the state’s largest infrastructure projects, the integrated Health and Academic Precinct is transforming the healthcare system for South Western Sydney. The $790 million Liverpool Hospital redevelopment expands clinical capacity, strengthens research leadership, and supports future health and workforce needs for one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
The scale of redevelopment required complex interface resolution across clinical, academic, and public domains. Addressing the expansive campus footprint, the retail strategy and guiding vision scoped the retail mix and connections, aligning arrival points, public circulation, and clinical flow to create accessible, operationally effective retail zones. Informed by benchmarking, surveys and consultation, Maytrix delivered the retail strategy and master plan, defining locations, tenancy areas and operational interfaces to support long-term campus-wide integration.
Retail services are integrated within key public zones to provide essential amenity for patients, carers, staff, visitors, researchers and students while protecting clinical pathways and simplifying campus circulation. The master plan enables staged construction while preserving operational continuity, responsive service delivery and commercial viability.
“An upgraded Liverpool Hospital will be the anchor for the Liverpool Innovation Precinct – a teaming up of major health and educational institutions with business groups and Liverpool City Council.”
The expanded precinct strengthens clinical reach, specialist services, and rehabilitation capacity while establishing stronger connections between patient care, academic research and Liverpool’s city centre. Integrated campus planning supports culturally responsive care models tailored to the region’s diverse community, delivering improved patient access, long-term clinical capability and regional health outcomes.

Fully embedded research and education infrastructure strengthens Liverpool’s academic leadership. Dedicated translational research hubs, clinical trials capacity, and partnerships with universities, research institutes and global collaborators support knowledge exchange, innovation pipelines and commercialisation. These networks build long-term capability across health, research, education, and advanced industries, positioning Liverpool as a nationally recognised academic health precinct.
Anchoring a major phase in the $1.6 billion investment reshaping health, research and education across South Western Sydney and the Hunter, the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct delivers expanded care, clinical excellence and education capacity. Informed by 15+ Health Infrastructure projects and extensive expertise in healthcare retail strategy, operational planning and service integration, Maytrix shaped the campus-wide retail framework, aligning public interface zones with the precinct’s academic, research and clinical functions. The strategy supports operational viability, improves access, and strengthens Liverpool’s role as a globally connected centre for care, education and knowledge exchange.
