The H.C. Coombes Centre is a residential conference and training centre located in Kirribilli, Sydney. Acquired by the Reserve Bank of Australia in 1960, it serves as the Bank’s dedicated conference and training centre.
Appointed to deliver a performance review, Maytrix established demand and identified a strategic approach to realign operations, transforming the Centre into a high-performing asset. The staged strategy established demand, delivered a roadmap, and provided an implementation plan to secure the future of the H.C. Coombes Centre as a dedicated training and conference centre for the Bank.
Maytrix guided the staged implementation to reframe operations and arrest declining performance. It eliminated operational barriers impacting bookings and access, realigned the hospitality and service experience, and implemented a targeted marketing campaign to validate the case for investment.
The strategic approach delivered a business transformation—translating under-performance into high demand. Informed by comprehensive market analysis and benchmarking, Maytrix scoped requirements to brief the Centre upgrade. This informed the strategic alignment of room configuration and technology for the five-storey centre, and the upgrade of 31 guest rooms to optimise capacity and align facilities and amenities with contemporary executive conferencing standards.
A hard reset reframed the guest experience—implementing software and resourcing upgrades. The lift upgrade and ground floor reconfiguration introduced concierge facilities, improved access across the five storeys, and delivered seamless check-in.
“The HC Coombes Centre is a unique property in one of Sydney’s best locations…a secret no longer! This purpose-built training facility provides an excellent learning environment with multiple areas and flexible layouts. ”
The major refurbishment addressed escalating maintenance costs of the ageing heritage asset through a full upgrade of building services and delivered major hospitality upgrades, with expanded dining, new and expanded breakout spaces, including extensive tiered landscaping to optimise the Centre’s exceptional outlook across the Harbour and Sydney skyline.
The strategic realignment has transformed the Centre into a high-performing, in-demand premium training and conference centre, and a valued asset in the Reserve Bank of Australia’s portfolio.
